CHILDREN’S OUTDOOR WEEKEND
This weekend is Children’s Outdoor Weekend! The activities at Spring Mill State Park are centered around the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights (see below).
Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights:
All Indiana children, regardless of ability, should have the right to: 1. Explore and play outdoors in a safe place. 2. Follow a trail and discover native plants, wildlife and history. 3. Experience traditional outdoor activities like fishing or hunting. 4. Discover and celebrate Indiana’s past. 5. Camp under the stars. 6. Climb a tree. 7. Visit a farm. 8. Plant a seed or tree and watch it grow. 9. Splash and play in streams, lakes and ponds. 10. Enjoy the outdoors using all the senses. 11. Ask questions, find answers and share nature with a friend.
Friday, August 13th
10 am: Nature Preserve Hike- Join Naturalist Emilie at Twin Caves Parking Lot for a rugged hike through three nature preserves and learn about our caves, old growth forest, and wildlife along the way. 1.5 hours. 2.5 Miles.
9pm: Star Party (3,4,5,10)- Pool parking lot. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on. 30 minutes
Saturday, August 14th
10 am: Reptile Rumble (1, 10, 11)
10:30am: Nature Trail Hike (1,2)
11 am: Rock Skipping Contest (1,3,9)
12 pm-2pm: Miniature Donkey exhibit (7)
12:30pm: Painting Nature (2,4,10,11)
2pm-3pm: Live Raptor program from the Dwight D. Chamberlain Raptor Center at Hardy Lake
3:30pm: Creek Stomp (1,2,4,9,10,11) Meet by Village Ordinary (Concessions)
4:30pm: Mystery Seed Planting (1,8)
5pm: Fishing Activity (1,3,4,9,10,11)
9pm: Spider Sniffing (1,2,3,10,11) Meet at Grissom Memorial
Sunday, August 15th
10am-12pm: Fishing Activity, Walk the Plank, Okra Craft, Fossil prints, Native American Tool Carvings
11am: Creek Stomp(1,2,4,9,10,11) Meet at Village Ordinary (Concessions)
1pm: Donaldson Cave Hike (1,2,3,4,9,10,11) Meet at Sycamore Shelter
2pm: Cave Safety Activity (1,3,10,11)
*Lakeview Activity Center: Opened Daily 10am-5pm
*Grissom Memorial: Opened Daily 8am-4pm
