GRISSOM BOYHOOD HOME TOURS

Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom is a hero in Lawrence County. Gus, a Mitchell native and military veteran, was one of the first Americans to fly into space. He is one of three astronauts from Lawrence County.

The house that he grew up in is still here –  opening its doors for space lovers, historians and families to visit and enjoy.

Volunteers open the home to visitors on Saturdays. Walk through the home and get a glimpse into what life was like for Gus growing up.

TOURS ARE FREE – Donations are welcome and go to Virgil I. Grissom, Inc. to help with upkeep of the home and events for the public.

Open Saturdays
11:00 am – 3:00 pm
May to October
