Weekend Programs at Spring Mill State Park

WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.

Friday, August 6th  

10 am: Donaldson Cave Hike Meet Naturalist Morgan on a guided hike to the scenic Donaldson Cave. Meet near Sycamore Shelter House. Rugged. 45 minutes.

11 am: Nature’s Architects Join Naturalist Emilie at the Lakeview Activity Center to build your own beaver dam while discovering more about the importance of beavers in the environment.  30 minutes.

2 pm: Trail 6 Hike – Meet Naturalist Morgan at the Gus Grissom Memorial to go for a short hike to learn about some of our invasive plant species, the history behind them, and what we do to keep them under control. .25 miles. Accessible. 30 – 45 minutes.

 

Saturday, August 7th

10 am: Lake HikeMeet Naturalist Morgan at the Lakeview Activity Center for a hike around the lake on trail 5. Learn about the history of the lake and the water system. 1 mile.  Partially rugged.  50 minutes.

11 am: Owls: Our Nocturnal Raptor– Please join Chris at the Lakeview Activity Center for an informative program about our fascinating nighttime hunters. 30 Minutes.

1 pm: Butterflies of Indiana Meet Naturalist Emilie at the Lakeview Activity Center to learn about the life cycles of butterflies and their importance to the environment. 30 minutes.

 

Sunday, August 8th

8am: Native Birds of Spring Mill- Meet volunteer Anthony at Donaldson Cave parking lot trailhead for a short stroll on the paved loop at Donaldson Shelter to learn about and search for some of Indiana’s native birds. (Bring your own binoculars) 30 minutes.

10 am: The Interesting Life of the Eastern Box Turtle– Please join Chris at the Lakeview Activity Center as we learn about the unique life of our resident Box Turtle. 30 minutes.

1 pm: Creek Stomp– Dip your feet in the cool spring water to help the Naturalist find macroinvertebrates that call this creek home. Meet by the Village Ordinary (concession stand). 30 minutes

 

*Lakeview Activity Center:  Opened Daily 10am-5pm

*Grissom Memorial:  Opened Daily 8am-4pm
