WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.

Saturday, March 13th
1pm:  Invasive Plant ID Hike Join the naturalist to learn more about invasive plants that threaten the health of our native natural resources.  Learn ways you can help the park, your yard, and/or your community.  30 minutes.  Moderate hike.  Amphitheater at the Lakeview Activity Center.

Sunday, March 14th
1pm:  Hamer Cemetery Tour Spring Mill’s most influential people have been laid to rest in this cemetery.  Learn how their stories influenced park history.  Meet at Hamer Cemetery.

Saturday, March 20th
11am:  Spring Equinox HikeEnjoy a hike on Mountain Bike Trail with Tony.  Meet at Pool parking lot.  90 minutes.  Partially Rugged.

Sunday, March 21st
1pm:  Step Into Spring Hike –Join Anthony for a rugged 2 mile hike on trail 4.  We will look for signs of spring and learn about the history of Spring Mill State Park. 90 minutes.

Saturday, March 27th
1pm-4pm:  Fish Printing (gyotaku) Workshop:  Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese form of art that fisherman used over 100 years ago to keep a record of the fish that they caught.  Reserve a time slot on the hour between 1pm-4pm to come learn a little about the history behind this art while also finding out what is swimming in Spring Mill lake today.  Make your own fish print using our paper or bring your own piece of cloth such as a pillow case, handkerchief, etc.  (something that won’t get washed often)  40 minutes. Only one family/friend group or individual per time slot. Masks required.  Call 812-849-3534 or email Sheree at sbelt@dnr.in.gov to reserve your time slot.   $2 per person.

8pm:  Full Moon Hike – Join Anthony at Spring Mill Inn front patio for a brisk moon lit night hike and learn why the March full moon is called the “Full Worm Moon”.  Rugged Hike on Trail 3, 2.5 miles

 

Sunday, March 28th
1pm:  Cave River Valley Hike – Meet at Donaldson Cave parking lot to follow your guide 15 miles to Cave River Valley Natural Area.  Wear waterproof boots.  Very Rugged.  2 hours.
