HEMLOCK CLIFFS HIKE

The U.S.D.A. Forest Service will offer a free, family-friendly guided hike at the Hemlock Cliffs Trail on January 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST.  Participants will walk the 1.5 mile loop with a guide and become aware of some of the natural and cultural history of the area.  There is a rock staircase down into the canyon and appropriate footwear should be worn.  This scenic trail offers rock outcroppings, a waterfall, and geological formations such as rock shelters.  The trail is located in Crawford County, off Ind. 37. 10:00 to 4:00 Pioneer lawn games (Mill Lawn)

11:00 drop by the toy table in the upper residence and make a thaumatrope (a pioneer toy that proves the persistence of vision)

12:00 to 3:00 Drop by the toy table on the upper residence lawn to see what kind of toys pioneer children played with

12:30 Clay craft at the Meeting house

1:30 Make a leather lacing and bead bracelet (Leather shop)

2:30 Sawmill demonstration

3:30 Play the Game of Graces. This is game has been played since the 1500’s a fun game played with hoops and sticks (Lawn beside the distillery)

4:00 the Story of Sam Bass notorious outlaw connected to the weaver’s cabin find out how (Weaver’s Cabin)

3:30 Children often made their own toys, stop by the weaver’s cabin and learn how pioneer children made rag dolls, then make one to take home with you.
