Things to Do

Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom is a hero here in Lawrence County. As one of the first Americans to fly into space, we are glad that he called Mitchell his home. He is one of three astronauts from Lawrence County.

The house that he grew up in is still here –  opening its doors for space lovers, historians and families to go back in time for a little bit and see how this astronaut grew up.

Open Saturdays
11:00 am – 3:00 pm
May 25 to October 26

Things to Do

There’s nothing better than visiting the Farmer’s Market on a warm summer morning. Feel the sun on your skin and the happiness in the air as you walk along the booths and pick out the freshest-of-the-fresh produce from local farms. You may also find some neat little knick-knacks made by people right from your own community!

The Bedford Farmers Market begins in mid-May each year and runs through the end of October. So, if you don’t make this one, there’s always next week!

Things to Do

If you are a Country Music fan, join us at the beautiful Spring Mill Inn for some front porch pickin’ with Kirby Stailey.

Stailey started singing around the age of 5 when he would sing for his church congregation. Now, he writes his own music and has performed at several places including the U.S. Capitol Building, the Indiana Statehouse, the National Quartet Convention, Faith Rocks, Holiday World, and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. He was even a regional finalist on NBC’s the Voice.

*STATE PARK FRONT GATE FEE MAY APPLY*
