Earth Day at Spring Mill
April 23, 2022
EARTH DAY
Celebrate this Earth Day in the great outdoors! Spring Mill State Park is offering a wide variety of activities from 10 am to 4 pm:
10am-12pm: Donaldson Cave Nature Preserve –
Meet Wyatt Williams, ecologist from Division of Nature Preserves, in front of Spring Mill Inn to walk through a high-quality dry-mesic upland forest with unique plants that thrive in thin, rocky soils. Pass through a small, unique glade with a wonderful diversity of plants more associated with prairies than the forest that surrounds it. The stroll will continue through Donaldson Hollow, a floodplain valley that recently had acres of invasive Vinca minor removed. Rugged, 1 mile hike. 2 hours
10am-1pm: Make and take a bird feeder (!peanut butter used!)
10am-1pm: Make and take home your own seed starter pot
10am-3pm: Borrow a fishing pole with free bait. (Must have fishing license if 18 years or older)
11am: Nature Hike – Naturalist Morgan will let you borrow a magnifying glass on this guided hike, so you can get close and personal with some of the wonders of nature. Lakeview Activity Center back patio. 30 minutes.
