Joel Johnstone:
Have you ever watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Newsroom or The Astronaut Wives Club? You would’ve seen Joel Johnstone! While he is in Mitchell, he plans to speak about his role on The Astronaut Wives Club, as our honorable hero, Gus Grissom.

Harrison Schmitt:
As the most recent living person to walk on the moon, we are excited to have Schmitt in Mitchell to talk of his life as a geologist, former U.S. Senator and crew member of Apollo 17. You have to hear these stories!

This includes a tour of the Home, hor d’oeuvres and desserts, as well as, a photo with Joel Johnstone.

 

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
$45 | Photo Op | Mitchell First Baptist Church
Includes a group photo of no more than 5 people with Harrison Schmitt. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of for $50.

 

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Free | Open House Tours | Grissom Boyhood Home
Walk through the home that Gus Grissom grew up in.

GRISSOM BOYHOOD HOME TOURS

Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom is a hero in Lawrence County. Gus, a Mitchell native and military veteran, was one of the first Americans to fly into space. He is one of three astronauts from Lawrence County.

The house that he grew up in is still here –  opening its doors for space lovers, historians and families to visit and enjoy.

Volunteers open the home to visitors on Saturdays. Walk through the home and get a glimpse into what life was like for Gus growing up.

TOURS ARE FREE – Donations are welcome and go to Virgil I. Grissom, Inc. to help with upkeep of the home and events for the public.
