SPRING MILL STATE PARK
Visitors to the park enjoy its unique facilities. This includes the Grissom Memorial, a museum dedicated to Hoosier astronaut Virgil I. ‘Gus’ Grissom. The park is famous for the Pioneer Village with its working Grist Mill. Other facilities showcase activities centered on the region’s natural wonders, including Twin Caves and the old-growth Donaldson Woods. Staff conducts underground boat tours at Twin Caves from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Participants on these tours have an excellent chance of seeing bats, blind crayfish, and the endangered Northern blind cavefish. You can learn about wildlife and the flora/fauna of the park at the Lakeview Activity Center.
There are numerous hiking trails that outdoor enthusiasts can explore, ranging in difficulty from easy to rugged and from one-quarter mile to 2.5 miles in length. Other recreational activities include an outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool near the campground, sports courts, a nature center, picnic areas, shelter houses, and large playgrounds.
