Weekend Programs at Spring Mill State Park

WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.

Friday, September 3rd

4pm:  Salamander Social – Learn about our Indiana’s endangered salamander the Hellbender, also known as the Snot Otter! Create some slime to take home. Lakeview Activity Center back patio. 20 minutes.

 

Saturday, September 4th

Indiana Archeology Month:  Celebrate with us by stopping by the Lakeview Activity Center for the following programs from 10am-2pm:

10am-11am:  Archeological Dig – Learn about archeology with Sheree and get a chance to dig for mock artifacts in our dig site.

10am-12pm:  Relics from the Past – Join the naturalist at the back patio to see and learn about some excavated artifacts found at earlier archeological digs that happened in our Pioneer Village.

11am-12pm  Pottery from the Past – Create your own piece of pottery while hearing Morgan talk about how pottery was used in the past. (while supplies last)

1pm-2pm:  Piecing Together History – “Dig” for artifacts and then piece them together in this simulated archeological activity.

7pm:  Snake Talk – Join Emilie at the campground amphitheater to hear about snakes of Indiana while meeting our two resident snakes.  30 minutes

8:30pm:  Star Gazing – September is Project Aware month! https://www.projectawarein.org/. Its focus is mental wellness.  Discover a little about our stars and constellations.  Then relax and enjoy some quiet sky gazing on the lawn near Sycamore Shelter.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair.  30 minutes.

 

Sunday, September 5th

11am:  Nature Preserves HikeJoin Naturalist Emilie at Twin Caves parking lot for a rugged hike through three nature preserves, learn about our caves, old growth forest, and wildlife along the way.  2.5 miles. 1.5 hours. Partially rugged.
