1:00 PM – Nature Preserve Hike
Tulip Poplar Shelter
Visit the Mitchell Karst Plains Nature Preserve with Spring Mill Volunteer, Tony. Learn about the history of nature preserves in Indiana. Hike is along the easy Trail 7. Approximately 45 minutes.

9:30 PM – Full Flower Moon Hike
Lakeview Activity Center
Meet Spring Mill Volunteer, Anthony, for this 1 hour moderate hike on Trail 5. See the outdoors after dark and learn about the full flower moon.

SUNDAY MAY 19

11:00 AM Stalactites, Stalagmites and Bats Oh My!
Meet at Pioneer Village Parking Lot
Go on a hike to Donaldson Cave and learn about unique cave formations and bats that live there.

12:00 PM Reptile Rumble
Meet at Lakeview Activity Center
Bring your lunch and meet us on the back patio of the nature center to discover what our reptiles like to munch on.

2:00 PM Hidden Caves Hike
Meet at Lakeview Activity Center

Trees of the forest are able to help us in our everyday life and are used in a variety of unsuspecting products. Join Aaron for a fun show and tell of different wood and forest products. 30 minutes.

Friday

4pm:  Snake Talk – Have you met our resident reptiles? Join Sarah outside the Lakeview Activity Center as she introduces you to two native Indiana Snakes.

7pmHit the Trails Hike – Meet at the Lakeview Activity Center for a moderate hike that will include trail 2, trail 4 and trail 1.  2 mile hike, 1 hour. A great way to unwind from a hectic week.

 

 

Saturday

11am: Salamander Social Meet Sarah on the Lakeview Activity Center’s amphitheater and we will identify Indiana’s Endangered Snot Otter and make some salamander slime!

3:00p.m:  Old Growth Hike – Meet Chris at Twin Caves parking lot for a beautiful hike through the karst landscape and virgin timber.

 

Sunday

2pm:  Trail 5 Hike – Join Chris at the Lakeview Activity Center for an enjoyable hike around the lake to experience the sights and sounds of nature.  1 mile, rugged.

Kick off the Persimmon Festival and the Tri Kappa Candlelight Tour with a guided hike along the Stagecoach Trail and through the Pioneer Village.

11:00 AM Bubble Homes and Fish Farts
Stop by the Lakeview Activity Center to blow bubbles and learn how animals use bubbles in nature!

1:00 PM Creek Stomp
Meet Gail to explore the Park’s creek bed for macroinvertebrate. Bring your water shoes or just go barefoot!

Walk the Pioneer Village by candlelight and learn a little more about how life was in the 1800’s.

The property that Spring Mill manages in Washington County is full of history! Prepare to get your feet wet as we hike down to the valley! Bring water and get ready for this 2.5 hour, rugged hike.

Join Chris for a leisurely hike to enjoy the colorful splendor of Fall!

2:00 PM BIRD NEST BUILD Birds are nature’s engineers, find out why birds build their homes differently and build a nest of your own!

7:00 PM SMOKEY AT THE CAMPGROUNDS  Smokey Bear has a special message for you about wildfires. Join part of the naturalist staff to visit with Smokey Bear and learn about fire safety.
Meet at Campground Amphitheater

9:30 PM OWLS, OUR NOCTURNAL GUESTS Join Naturalist, Chris, and walk around the village in search of our nighttime friends.

10:00 AM CROQUET TOURNAMENT Join us for a trip back in time with this game that was popular with George Donaldson in the late 1800’s. Horse shoes and lawn bowling will be available to play, as well!

1:00 PM I SPY… SPRING MILL LAKE EDITION Meet Aaron to play a fun game of I Spy! and learn about some of the flora and fauna that surround the lake. Hike – 1 hour.

10:00 PM LIGHT THE NIGHT KAYAK TRIP Join Naturalists, Sheree and Sarah on a night kayak trip. Celebrate Christmas in July by decorating your kayak with Christmas lights and enjoying a night on the water. Must RSVP, bring a dim flashlight, life jacket and your kayak/canoe. Waivers will need to be signed by all guests and parents must be present for those 17 & under. Must be 3+ to participate.
