2024 Marks 50 Fascinating Years at Bluespring Caverns!

Lawrence County, Indiana is the proud home of Bluespring Caverns in Bedford, Indiana! For fifty years, families, students and adventurers have explored the fascinating depths of the caverns. And, many have returned again and again.

Boat Tours underground at Bluespring Caverns.

Descend hundreds of feet to an intriguing underground world at Bluespring Caverns. Take a guided boat tour on the subterranean river and explore natural forces that created these great chambers below.

During the tour, your guide will point out unusual formations and rare creatures that thrive in this dark, dank environment. You might encounter a cave salamander, blind cavefish, strange crayfish or upside-down bats dangling from the ceilings.

Bring a jacket or sweater. At a constant 52 degrees year-round, visiting Bluespring Caverns is always cool, even on the hottest summer day. Closed toe shoes are also recommended.

More Than A Cave

Outside the caverns, stay and play for the day! Mine for gems at the gemstone mining stations, hike the Karst Nature Trail and discover the rugged beauty of Indiana limestone. Picnic areas and shelters are available.

High Adventure

If you are looking for a more extreme underground experience, reserve a three-hour High Adventure Guided Tour in a kayak. Advance reservations are required, and groups are limited to 4 to 8 people aged 14 and older. Must have some paddle sport experience.

Admission and Location

Bluespring Caverns is open seasonally. In 2024, opening day is March 16, and the season ends October 31. At a minimum, tours leave hourly with tour times increasing during peak tourist seasons. Group and school tours welcome and reservations are required. There is an admission fee to the cavern. Parking is free. Hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. seven days per week.

Admission to the caverns is weather-dependent. Heavy rainfall may suspend tours. To check accessibility due to weather conditions, call head at (812) 279-9471.

Bedford, Indiana is located 75 miles south of Indianapolis and 75 miles north of Louisville. Bluespring Caverns is five miles SW of Bedford via SR 37 and US 50 (West).
