Born and raised in Southeastern Kentucky, Sydney has practically been singing from the time she could talk. She has been performing on stage since she was just 12 years old. Soon after, at the age of 15, she began writing her own songs. With her traditional songwriting, sweetheart demeanor, powerhouse vocals, and dynamic stage presence, Sydney has the respect and love of most anyone who has the privilege to watch her perform! The Avalons (formerly Sh-Boom) had its birth in 1987 when two fellow broadcasters at an oldies station with a love for 50’s and 60’s rock decided they could produce an excellent show! They decided that they wanted to be a show with all the entertainment elements…costumes, choreography, audience participation, and wacky humor, instead of just another band that played oldies. Hank Wintczak, former Mitchell Band Director, is proud to bring this talented group of musicians to the Mitchell Opera House! This group plays big band jazz music from the early days of the big band up to some of the more current tunes by today’s most respected jazz arrangers. Doors open at 6:15 pm.
