WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.
This Sunday is FREE admission into the park and FREE fishing day!

Saturday, May 1st  

10am:  Bluebird Nesting Box Monitoring HikeMeet Naturalist Sheree at Oak Ridge Shelter to walk with her while she monitors nesting boxes.  Learn about the different native cavity nesters and the pests and predators that threaten their nests.  30 minutes.

11am:  Snake Talk –  Have you met our resident reptiles? Join Naturalist Emilie at the amphitheater by the Lakeview Activity Center to learn about snakes of Indiana and meet two of our resident snakes.  30 minutes

4pm:  Hamer Cemetery Tour Take a step back into time with a 30 minute tour of our Pioneer Cemetery.  Explore the mystery of some unmarked graves.  Meet at Hamer Cemetery.

 

Sunday, May 2nd
FREE PARK ENTRY AND FREE FISHING DAY!
On Free Fishing Days, Indiana residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish the state’s public waters. All other rules such as seasons, bag and size limits apply. CLICK HERE to learn more.

1pm:  Lake Hike   Meet Naturalist Emilie at the Lakeview Activity Center for a hike around the lake.  Learn all about the flora and fauna that live in and around the lake.  1 mile.  Partially rugged.  50 minutes.

Saturday, November 14th

11am:  Lime Kiln Hike –  Meet Tony at the Lakeview Activity Center for a history hike to our lime kilns.  Moderate 40 minute hike.

1pm:  All Things Spring Mill Lake – Come join the naturalist on a 80 minute hike to hear about the lake history, Rubble Spring, the critters that call the lake home, and the Lime Kilns.  Rugged.  Meet at the Lakeview Activity Center.

 

Sunday, November 15th

8:30am:  Beginning Birding Program & HikeMeet the naturalist at the Lakeview Activity Center to hear about some of Indiana’s birds that are here through the winter.  After, we’ll head out for a hike to find some feathered friends.  Bring your own Binoculars.  1 mile rugged hike.  90 minute program.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH

11am:  Wood Burning for Beginners Learn a little about trees in Indiana.  Then spend some time burning a design into a tree cookie to take home.  Ages 13 years and older.  Limited Space. $1 per person.  Must register at sbelt@dnr.in.gov.

 

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH

1pm:  History Hike – Join Anthony at Spring Mill Inn front patio for a rugged hike on trail 4 that will highlight many historically significant locations and nature preserves.  2.5 miles.  1.5 hour hike.
