WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.

Saturday, April 24th

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION!

10am- 4pm:  Earth Day Activities – Come join the naturalists for fun games, activities, crafts, programs, and hikes all about our earth.  Lakeview Activity Center.

Lakeview Activity Center:
🌎10am-3pm: Borrow a fishing pole – Free fishing for ages 17 and under.
🌎10am-10:30am: Make a bird feeder (peanut butter)
🌎10:30am-11am: Seed planting
🌎11am-11:30am: Composting Activity
🌎11:30am-12pm: Nature Collage

9am:  Cave River Valley Hike – Meet Tony at Donaldson Cave parking lot to follow your guide in your vehicle15 miles to Cave River Valley Natural Area.  Wear waterproof boots.  Very Rugged.  2 hours.

8pm:  Full Moon Hike –  Meet Anthony at Donaldson Cave parking lot for a spring time night hike under April’s full moon, known as the “Full Pink Moon”. Learn some moon lore and hear about Spring Mill’s nocturnal animals.  Moderate hike on trail 7.  2 miles.

Sunday, April 25th

11am:  Wildflower Hike – Spring flowers are blooming!  Enjoy a guided hike with the naturalist to take in all the beauty.  Meet at Lakeview Activity Center.  1 mile.  Partially Rugged.  45 minutes.

Friday, May 28th

9pm:  Full Moon HikeMeet Anthony at the Lakeview Activity Center for a relaxing moon lit hike around Spring Mill Lake and learn about May’s Full Flower Moon.  Partially rugged.  1 hour.

 

Saturday, May 29th

11am:  Snake Talk  Learn what it means to be a snake.  Meet two of our resident snakes.  Lakeview Activity Center.  30 minutes.

2pm:  Creek Stomp –Feel the cool spring water on your feet as you explore who calls this creek home.  Meet by Pioneer Village Concessions (Ordinary).  30 minutes.

3pm:  Stagecoach Trail Hike – Meet the naturalist by the Grist Mill in Pioneer Village to learn about this historic trail and its importance.  .5 miles. Moderately Rugged. 30 minutes.

 

Sunday, May 30th

11am:  Box Turtle Talk –  Learn about box turtles while meeting a live one.  Lakeview Activity Center.  20 minutes.

3pm:  Glade Hike – Meet the naturalist at Donaldson Cave Parking lot for a .5 mile, moderate hike to see and hear about this important area in our park.  30 minutes.

 

Monday, May 31st

11am:  Salamander Social – Join Naturalist Morgan to discover the cool Indiana salamanders including the endangered Snot Otter!  Create some slime to take home.  Lakeview Activity Center.  30 minutes.

1pm:  Hamer Cemetery Tour – Meet Naturalist Emilie at Hamer Cemetery to learn about the history of our village and explore the mystery of some unmarked graves.  30 minutes.

NATIONAL WALK WEEK

The Friends of Spring Mill State Park and the Bedford Hiking Club have joined forces to provide guided hikes during National Walking Week. Throughout the week, you will be offered a variety of hikes around Lawrence County. This also gives hikers a chance to complete the Spring Mill Hiking Challenge! POP UP MARKET

Who’s ready to shop?!? Now that the world is slowly opening back up, we are going to have a small vendor market at the farm!!! Just a handful of vendors will be here, but let’s all get together and support these local makers!!!
Time to get out of the house enjoy the open air outdoor market, while practicing social distancing.
•Free Admission
•No public restrooms available.
•No concessions, don’t forget to bring drinks on this hot summer day!
•Masks aren’t required, but recommended.
•Please practice social distancing.

Santa and his sleigh will be at the Milwaukee Depot in Bedford on Friday and Saturday. No-contact will be allowed, but Santa couldn’t go through the holidays without saying hello! Visitors are being asked to drive down J Street from 5th Street to drive by the Depot. The organizers ask that everyone stay inside their vehicles and keep the line moving smoothly.
