WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.

Saturday, May 8th  

10am:  Cave River Valley Hike – Have you been to the property we manage in Washington County?  It’s full of history!  Prepare to get your feet wet as we hike down to the valley!  Meet Tony at the Donaldson Cave parking lot and follow his car to this beautiful, primitive hike. Very Rugged.  Bring water-proof shoes and bug spray.  2 hours.

1pm:  Donaldson Cave Hike – Meet Naturalist Emilie by Sycamore Shelter to hike to Donaldson Cave.  Learn about our Shawnee Cave System, who George Donaldson was, and what cave you can explore at Spring Mill without a permit or guide.  Rugged.  45 minutes.

 

Sunday, May 9th

1pm:  Wildflower Hike – Meet Naturalist Emilie at the Lakeview Activity Center for a 1 mile hike around the lake to learn more about our spring wildflowers. Partially Rugged.  1 hour.

Saturday, April 10th

9am-12pm:  Weed Wrangle Indiana® Event –Garlic Mustard Pull –  Join Spring Mill State Park in partnership with KIC (Lawrence County Keep Invasives In Check) and Friends of Spring Mill State Park at 9am by the Pool parking lot.  Learn to identify some invasive plants.  You’ll be given a map and bags to set off and pull garlic mustard.  At 11am, go to Pioneer Village parking lot and walk to the building near the restrooms to have your bag(s) weighed and receive a ticket for a free lunch provided by the Friends of Spring Mill State Park.  Lunch served from 11:15-12pm for participants only.  Bring your group to help Spring Mill become a healthier habitat for all wildlife.  Heaviest weighted bag(s) by an individual (not group) wins a 2021 Indiana State Park Pass.  Registration allows us prepare enough food for everyone who participates. Day-of volunteers are very welcome, but registered attendees will receive food first.  Please register before April 6th by contacting Sheree at sbelt@dnr.in.gov.

Sunday, April 11th

10am:  National Walk Week Volkswalk – Meet at Spring Mill Inn to choose between two guided hikes – A 10K (6.2 miles) OR a 5K (3.1 miles).  Hikes led by Bedford Hiking Club members.

1pm:  National Walk Week Trail 3 Hike – Enjoy a guided hike on trail 3.  Meet at Twin Caves parking lot.  2.5 miles.  1.75 hours.

Friday, April 2nd  

8am:  Early Riser Hike – Enjoy a quiet morning guided hike with Tony.  Meet at Spring Mill Inn front patio for a 1 mile hike on parts of trail 1 and 4.

7pm:   Sunset Hike – Meet Anthony at the Lakeview Activity Center to enjoy an evening hike.  Take in the sights and sounds of spring.  Moderate hike.  1 mile.
