What to expect:

Cave River Valley is a remote location that can be hard to find and cell service is generally unreliable. Plan to leave extra time to arrive at your scheduled tour. It is a twenty-minute drive from Spring Mill State Park, so if you plan to leave from there, give yourself plenty of time to show up early to your tour time.

Cave River Valley has challenging terrain. It is important to drive slowly on the gravel and come prepared to be immersed in nature. The gravel is rough and uneven which means parking may be tricky. To even reach the cave, there is a half-mile walk down a steep, rocky hill. You will also encounter knee-high grass, possible ticks, and poison ivy. After the tour, you will have to make the half-mile trek back up the hill.

When in the cave you can expect to get wet feet at a minimum. Water can be as high as two feet. The air temperature in the cave is around 54° F so dress accordingly.

The tour will be thirty minutes in and thirty minutes out. You can expect to spend two hours at CRV for decontamination training before and cleanup after. While in the cave, there will be very slippery and uneven terrain.

Overall, your trip to Cave River Valley will be very rugged both inside the cave and out.
