WEEKEND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS

Weekends at Spring Mill State Park are never boring! This beautiful park has so much to offer, with the historic Pioneer Village, 9+ miles of hiking, a beautiful lodge & a lake for fishing and kayaking with your friends.
This Sunday is FREE admission into the park and FREE fishing day!

Saturday, May 1st  

10am:  Bluebird Nesting Box Monitoring HikeMeet Naturalist Sheree at Oak Ridge Shelter to walk with her while she monitors nesting boxes.  Learn about the different native cavity nesters and the pests and predators that threaten their nests.  30 minutes.

11am:  Snake Talk –  Have you met our resident reptiles? Join Naturalist Emilie at the amphitheater by the Lakeview Activity Center to learn about snakes of Indiana and meet two of our resident snakes.  30 minutes

4pm:  Hamer Cemetery Tour Take a step back into time with a 30 minute tour of our Pioneer Cemetery.  Explore the mystery of some unmarked graves.  Meet at Hamer Cemetery.

 

Sunday, May 2nd
FREE PARK ENTRY AND FREE FISHING DAY!
On Free Fishing Days, Indiana residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish the state’s public waters. All other rules such as seasons, bag and size limits apply. CLICK HERE to learn more.

1pm:  Lake Hike   Meet Naturalist Emilie at the Lakeview Activity Center for a hike around the lake.  Learn all about the flora and fauna that live in and around the lake.  1 mile.  Partially rugged.  50 minutes.

Saturday, December 5th

11am:  Donaldson Cave HikeMeet the naturalist at Sycamore Shelter for a hike on Trail 4 to Donaldson Cave.  Learn more about our caves and George Donaldson’s part in conserving areas of our park.  .5 mile, partially rugged.  45 minutes.

1pm:  All Things Spring Mill Lake –   Join the naturalist at the Lakeview Activity Center for an 1 mile hike around the lake.  1 hour.

 

Sunday, December 6th

8:30am – Beginning Birding HikeMeet the naturalist at the Lakeview Activity Center to hear about some of Indiana’s birds that are here through the winter.  After, we’ll head out for a hike to find some feathered friends.  Bring your own Binoculars.  1 mile rugged hike.  90 minute program.

Saturday, November 28th

11am:  Hidden Cave Hike – Join Tony for a moderate off trail hike to one of our hidden caves, Rubble Springs.  Meet at the Lakeview Activity Center.  1 hour.     

7pm:  Full Beaver Moon Hike – Learn all about the Full Beaver Moon and the adaptions of the American Beaver that calls Spring Mill his home.  Meet Anthony at the Lakeview Activity Center for a 1 mile, moderate hike around the lake.
