Lawrence County is home to an exciting county fair along with traditional events and festivals. With warm weather upon us, you won’t want to miss all the fairs and festivals planned during the upcoming months. From the Lawrence County Fair in July to Christmas Around the Square & Parade in Bedford in December, we have collected them all here so you can plan ahead and attend.
July
7/7 – 7/15: Lawrence County Fair comes to the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Bedford. Come for the carnival rides, delicious fair food, 4-H entries and grandstand events.
7/21 & 7/22: Galactic Gathering combines various events which will celebrate the astronauts who called Lawrence County their home. These heroes are Kenneth Bowersox, Charles D. Walker and Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom. Tour Gus Grissom sites. Meet Charles D. Walker and other astronauts. See Astronaut Wives Club star, Joel Johnstone, who played the role of Gus Grissom on the television show.
7/22 & 7/23: Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom Days is dedicated to this accomplished astronaut who became one of the first Americans to launch into space. Special tours, exhibits and festivities will take place around Mitchell.
August
8/5 & 8/6: Heritage Days in Pioneer Village at Spring Mill State Park will demonstrate the lifestyle of an early 1800s community. On Sunday, August 6, see an extensive and colorful quilt display throughout Pioneer Village.
September
9/23: Tri Kappa Candelight Tour sets the Pioneer Village aglow at Spring Mill State Park. At twilight, the historic village buildings are alive with interpreters and entertainment. Ham and beans dinner complete with corn bread will be offered. Plenty of parking and shuttle service available.
9/23 – 9/30: 76th Annual Mitchell Persimmon Festival occupies the streets of downtown Mitchell. This is one of the largest and longest Indiana festivals, so mark your calendar now. Come for carnival rides, fair food, free live entertainment nightly, parade, pageants and fireworks. Taste the local favorite, persimmon pudding, and fall in love!
October
10/7 & 10/8: Autumn Harvest Days in Pioneer Village at Spring Mill State Park. Experience what Fall was like over 200 years ago as interpreters demonstrate harvest time and winter preparations.
November
11/4 & 11/5: Craft Show in the Village at Pioneer Village in the Spring Mill State Park.
December
12/1 & 12/2: Holiday in the Village at Pioneer Village in the Spring Mill State Park. Get a jolly glimpse of early 1800s holiday traditions.
12/2: Christmas Around the Square & Parade in Bedford. Shop local vendors, see Christmas displays and Santa Claus himself. As date approaches, check here for more information.
